The Brave Web Browser And Brave Rewards Program

Brave Browser

WHY BRAVE?

BROWSE FASTER

Load pages 3x to 6x faster

Watch Brave in action, head-to-head-to-head against Chrome and Firefox. Brave loads pages three times as fast out of the box with nothing to install, learn or manage.

BROWSE SAFER

Experience unparalleled privacy and security.

Brave fights malware and prevents tracking, keeping your information safe and secure. It’s their top priority.

Brave is not in the personal data business.

Brave’s servers neither see nor store your browsing data – it stays private, on your devices, until you delete it. Which means they won’t ever sell your data to third parties.

Customize your shield settings

Choose your settings on a per-site or browser-wide basis. See how many ads and trackers are being blocked by Brave every day on the New Tab Page.

Security meets simplicity

If you’re willing to research, download, and install multiple extensions, and carefully configure and correctly maintain settings in both the browser and extensions, you can match some of Brave’s privacy and security.

Brave does all that work for you. Simple, right?

Whenever possible, Brave automatically upgrades to HTTPS for secure, encrypted communications when an ordinary browser would use an insecure connection.

Defaults that matter

Browse confidently with default settings that block phishing, malware, and malvertising. Also, plugins, which have proven to be a security risk, are disabled by default.

Sync your devices bravely

Brave Sync, currently in beta, can be enabled to encrypt and synchronize your preferred settings and bookmarks. However, Brave does not have the keys to decrypt your data.

WHY BRAVE REWARDS?

Your attention is valuable. Earn by viewing privacy-respecting ads and pay it forward to support content creators you love.

With your old browser, you paid to browse the web by viewing ads with your valuable attention. You spent your valuable time downloading invasive ad technology that transmitted your precious private data to advertisers — without your consent.

Today, Brave welcomes you to the new Internet. One where your time is valued, your personal data is kept private, and you actually get rewarded for your attention.

HOW IT WORKS

Brave Rewards is built on the Basic Attention Token (BAT), a new way to value attention, connecting users, content creators, and advertisers.

When you join Brave Rewards, your browser will automatically start tallying (only on your device’s local storage) the attention you spend on sites you visit. Once a month, Brave Rewards will send the corresponding amount of BAT, divided up based on your attention, from your local browser-based wallet to the sites you’ve visited. You can remove sites you don’t want to support, and tip creators directly too.

All of this is anonymous: nobody (not even Brave) can see who supported which sites. They can only count up the total support for each site and send the BAT their way. Content creators can use our partner Uphold to convert the BAT they earn into a currency of their choosing.

WHERE TO GET TOKENS

You can fund your wallet with a currency of your choice or earn tokens by viewing ads you’re in control of.

Brave Rewards goes beyond anonymously supporting your favorite content creators. Private ads are enabled by default in Brave Rewards, providing the ability to earn Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) every time you view an ad. Ads are presented separately from your web content at a convenient time, and keep your personal details completely private and anonymous.

You can control the number of private ads you’d like to see, and earn 70% of the ad revenue that Brave receives from advertisers. In exchange for your attention, you’ll accumulate tokens as you browse. You can contribute these tokens to the sites you love — with more options coming later. Of course, you can also turn off private ads at any time in the Brave Rewards settings page if you no longer want to earn tokens by viewing them.

How are ads in Brave Rewards different?

Private ads in Brave Rewards do not collect information about you.

The business of digital advertising currently relies on companies collecting as much information about you as possible. With Brave Rewards, ad matching happens directly on your device and removes the need to leak personal data to provide relevant advertising.

Private ads in Brave Rewards are not intrusive to your browsing experience.

Private ads are presented as native notifications (separate from the web content being viewed), and open a new Brave tab when clicked. They typically appear in the top or bottom right of your screen.

You’re in control of the ads you see.

Choose to view private ads between once and five times per hour. Bookmark and save ad tabs for later. Private ads in Brave Rewards are designed to be shown only when the time is right.

No hint of your browsing activity ever leaves your device.

Brave Rewards locally picks which private ads to show you based on your browsing activity. Then, Brave uses an anonymous accounting process to confirm ad event activity, keep personal details private, and ensure people earn rewards for their attention.

Earn Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) for every ad viewed.

Brave puts you first, and that means you’re included in the deal. When you view private ads in Brave Rewards, you receive 70% of the ad revenue. Brave encourages you to pass this on to your favorite web content creators.

Private ads in Brave Rewards do not replace current web page ads.

By default, Brave blocks privacy-invading web ads and trackers that are embedded in page content. Joining Brave Rewards does not affect your current blocking settings for each website you visit. The private ads you see as part of Brave Rewards are shown separately from your browsing experience and are not the same as the invasive, performance-sapping ads embedded in websites.
